Living world port

The port of Hamburg is currently the largest seaport in Germany and the third largest in Europe, after Rotterdam and Antwerp.

Its special feature is its location far inland, 100 km from the North Sea. This location generates some of the most important locational advantages and disadvantages in equal measure.

In addition to the historical harbour flair with old ships and equipment, you can experience the lively seaport with handling of all kinds of goods, including containers, general cargo of all sizes and bulk goods.

Since the port terminals are no longer open to the public due to international security regulations, there is only one possibility if you want to experience container handling in particular at close range and with many technical details:

The port tour „Face to Face with the Giants“ by the company Jasper, for which I have been driving as one of the guides since 2017. This tour can be booked directly with the tour operator (but without being able to choose the guide and in English only by chartering a whole bus).

With me personally on a private city tour through Hamburg's harbour ...

… you can explore the harbour on a bike tour. In this way you can experience – but without direct access to the terminals – many interesting areas of the modern industrial harbour on different routes.

Of course, you can also book me as a guide for a harbour cruise by barge, or I will be happy to organise a complete boat trip including boat charter for you. Here we can get close to the giants of the oceans from the water side up to a few meters.
